Books I Checked Out This Week On Kindle Unlimited

Hello everyone! How are you feeling as we approach the new year? I am of the opinion that it can only go up from here, which I say not to jinx us. 2020 has officially been a YEAR no matter where you come from. I know I'll be spending the holidays home alone with my three cats for company. They're very excited by this prospect I'm sure, especially my kitten Steven who is going to experience his first Christmas in the strangest of circumstances.
I've been slowing down my reading in December, let's be real though it's always slow. However, I have been stocking up on some kindle unlimited reads to close out the year with. I probably won't get to all of these books before the clock strikes midnight but it's assuring to know they're waiting for me. I'm a book hoarder at my core and that's true even with my digital library

When I think of my guilty pleasure romance genre, mafia reads, I immediately associate it with the author Cora Reilly. She has written some of my absolute favorites from Bound by Honor to Sweet Temptation. Both of which I've reviewed on my blog pretty positively. I often decide to pick up one of her books when I'm in the mood for these reads because her catalogue is EXTENSIVE.
Recently, I got a targeted Facebook ad, because the government is obviously watching all of us, for Fragile Longing. It was a book by Cora Reilly I hadn't heard of before so I was intrigued because like I said I love her books generally. The description sounded interesting and it has been a while since I've read anything similar, i.e. a mafia romance. Long story, short it has now been downloaded in the hopes I will read it soon.
Title: Dirty Headlines
Author: LJ Shen
Genre: Romance

Description:
Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.
Notorious playboy.
Heir to a media empire.
...And my new boss.
I could have impressed him, if not for last month's unforgettable one-night stand.
I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory--namely, his wallet.
Now he's staring me down like I'm the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I'm supposed to take it.
But the thing about being Judith "Jude" Humphry is I have nothing to lose.
Brooklyn girl.
Infamously quirky.
Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.
When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.
He knows it.
So do I.
Every day in the newsroom is a battle.
Every night in his bed, war.
But it's my heart at stake, and I fear I'll be raising the white flag.

I've basically read everything LJ Shen has recently released, whether it be Sparrow or Playing With Fire. Since I loved her other books, I've decided to give her back catalogue a perusal. I frequently do this with authors I end up loving such as Cora Reilly, for example. This introduced me to one I vaguely recalled seeing but hadn't yet picked up - Dirty Headlines.
Dirty Headlines is a book I can't believe I glossed over when initially looking through LJ Shen's books. It was released in 2018 so it's a little further back but I am almost sure I'll enjoy it. The book sounds right up my alley and I'm pretty partial to these kinds of cliche stories. And if we're talking about cliches, LJ Shen does them well but darker.

Who doesn't love a good second chance romance? Plus a rockstar element? Falling Into You advertises all of this. I'm honestly sold and if you're not I don't know what to tell you.
I'm a massive fan of super trope-filled romances. I think I love them more in that genre than anywhere. There's something so entrancing about seeing the same premise lead into so many different scenarios. I've always been a fan of a second chance romance because the angst is usually incomparable. Rockstar romances are another guilty pleasure of mine that I can't stay away from. And just like that: wham, bam, it's on my tbr.
